BP KOIRALA NATIONAL OBSERVATORY

The national observatory is the first and the only observatory of Nepal that is located at Nagarkot (270 41″30’N latitude and 85031″12’E longitude) at a height of 2115 meters above the sea level and about 30 Km. away from Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. The observatory is equipped with Meade 16″ LX200GPS, Schmidt-Cassegrain Optical Telescope and a guest house for researchers to stay during the observation. Mainly, students of the Master’s level are doing their research work as a dissertation and project work in the observatory every year. In addition to the telescope, we have other equipment like CCD, lunar flash telescope and so on. A large number of students from the different parts of the country regularly visit the observatory for night sky observation.
